What is a youth multi-sport event?

Multi-sports include a combination of at least two of the areas of swimming, biking, or running events. An event that included only two of the three disciplines is called a duathlon and if it includes all three it is called a triathlon. This sport/ lifestyle is best describe by the International Triathlon Union's (ITU) in the following way:

  • Triathlon is a "lifestyle" sport
  • Triathlon exudes vitality and charisma
  • Triathlon is fresh, new and exciting, as well as demanding
  • Triathlon made its Olympic Debut in the Sidney 2000 summer games
  • The Fans: Triahtlon fans are active, well educated, evenly split between genders and encompass all age groups.

In short, Triathlon and Duathlon are part of a lifestyle for the fastest growing segment of active athletes. Those involved with this lifestyle are considered to be committed, loyal, positive, active, healthy, achievement oriented, and responsible.

The Youth division in multi-sport events is considered to be ages 7 to 14 years. Age Categories will be broken into ages: 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14.

The focus of youth multi-sport events is fun. Rather than emphasizing competition at this age we will focus on enjoyment, and on learning proper skills and healthy exercise habits that will last a life time

The Youth Duathlon will be the first youth centered multi-sport event in the NYC metropolitan area. The event will provide the small but growing community of youth multi-sport athletes the opportunity to have their own race.

The distances of the youth event increase with the age of participants. The specific course maps are listed below.
