The swim starts on the beach. Upon entering the water participants must swim through the 2 buoys before turning left. The first large buoy marks the turning point for the half mile swim. The second buoy marks the turning point for the 1 mile swim. All swimmers must go through the 2 buoys before turning right upon returning to the beach. If you MISS THE 2 BUOYS YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFY!
The run consist of a 3 mile loop. Both sprint and olympic distance athletes do the loop once. You will leave the transition area through the run-out exit, head West towards the first U-turn, continue running East, the transition area will be on your right, pass the finish line, continue running towards the end of the boardwalk until you see a large U-turn sign next to the water station. U-turn and head back to the finish line. We will have cones and yellow tape to create a chute for finishers. However, participants need to know and understand the course.
Upon finishing the swim follow the signs to the transition area. You will go through the pavilion and enter the transition area through the “swim- in” section. Athletes doing the Aquathlon will proceed to exit the transition from the opposite side they enter from the swim or the RUN-OUT section.
Your spot in the transition area is assigned to a specific row. We assign a range of numbers, usually 4 to 5 people per row. We use flexible fencing and a mesh to protect the transition area.
The transition area is secure and only participants are allowed to enter it. If any family members are spot with you in the transition area we will give a time penalty of 2 minutes.

The transition area is secured with flexible fencing and skinny scones (Height=3.5 feet). There are only 2 gates one at each end. We will keep a volunteer at each gate to make sure that only participants enter the transition area. Spectators, family and friends are NOT ALLOWED in the transition area. Please keep in mind that you must be body marked and show your bib number before entering the transition area. We marked the transition area in groups of 5. Find the corresponding row and make sure to tear off the tag on your bib and pin it to the bag you will keep at the transition area. Do not bring friends and family into the transition area or you will receive a 2 minute penalty. Please make sure you understand the flow of the transition area. It is your job to know that there is one end to enter the transition area after the swim and another one to exit the transition to proceed with the run. You will mess up your splits if you go through the wrong entrance/exit gate.
