USAT Article 5.3—Knowledge of Course

By admin, November 18, 2010

Hey triathletes!  Here is an article from the official USA Triathlon website about knowing the course!  Enjoy:

This week’s rule is Article 5.3—Knowledge of Course.

This rule addresses those unfortunate occasions when a cyclist  goes off course, even when directed to do so by a race volunteer or police officer. Participants and course monitors may make a mistake, but the rule does not allow for any time adjustment for the mistake. It is imperative that the participant review the course and be aware of the turns and any changes in the course.

Here’s the rule:

5.3. Knowledge of Course.
The sole responsibility of knowing and following the prescribed cycling course rests with each participant. No adjustments in times or results shall be made for participants who fail to follow the proper course for any reason whatsoever.

Want to learn more about a specific rule?
Let us know at communications@usatriathlon.org. Put “Rules suggestion” in the subject line. We can feature it in the upcoming weeks.

The Prospect Park Fall Duathlon is the Northeast’s multi-sport end of season duathlon in Brooklyn, NYC. RUN through Brooklyn’s only forest, past it’s waterfalls, under the Nethermead and East Wood Arches, through the Cleft Ridge Span Tunnel, over the Binnen and Esdale Bridges, and around the Long Meadow. You will always remember this run!!!! That’s why you will do it twice when you join us for the Prospect Park Duathlon. In between those runs you’ll bike the 3.35 mile loop going up gradual inclines, around long curves, and on fast flats allowing you to be strategic in the use of your strengths. Then hang out with a great crowd and amazing oatmeal during the awards ceremony. SIGN UP NOW OR FOREVER HOLD YOUR BIKE!!
